When a puppy has its baby teeth coming in, should his gums turn white?

Nope....never.





If his gums are indeed 'white', that puppy is DANGEROUSLY anemic and in danger of dying tonight. (The gums should always be a nice, healthy shade of pink. Sometimes they'll get a little red around the teeth when teething.)





The most common causes of anemia in puppies that age are hookworms (which you cannot see with your naked eye) and fleas.





Do not try to treat this yourself. Call your veterinarian and get that puppy in right now. If your DVM is closed and doesn't offer after-hours services, call the nearest animal emergency clinic.





If the gums are actually white, it is a VERY BIG DEAL!!!!

Reply:No they should not. White gums are usually a sign of anemia. That could be caused by hookworm, round worm and others. Take him to the vet and get him checked. Some worm infections in a really young puppy can kill them if left untreated. Normal gum color for a puppy is pink.
