Do I need to have my puppy's baby teeth removed?

She has 2 rows of teeth, both her baby and her adult teeth. The vet wants $600 to remove her baby teeth. What happens if I can't afford this? Any suggestions?

occasionally i have a pup that will have both baby k9s and adult k9s...eventually the baby teeth should fall out on their own. i have never had to have the vet remove them.

Reply:Ask another vet's opinion. Maybe they do need to come out,, but maybe another vet is cheaper or can help you out a little bit with the price

The baby ones will fall out eventually.

Reply:If they havent fallen out,yes they need to be taken out right away. Try taking her to the ASPCA they might be able to do it cheaper. No they wont get rid of your dog or take it from you. They are there to help. If they cant which i highly doubt,ask the vet if it is possible to have a payment plan arranged.
Reply:Not uncommon and it can cause problems, like quicker tooth decay because of the closer proximity of teeth, malocclusion (bite is off for chewing which could end up messing up her jaw and being painful when she chews). If the deciduous teeth are allowed to stay they will cause her permanent teeth to come in improperly positioned. Can or is vet willing to do it in 2 stages, like upper teeth now and lower ones in a couple months, to perhaps defray cost? I know they don't like to put dogs under any more than they absolutely have to for this type of thing, but maybe that will work. We have a pug who is going in May to have 4 deciduous canines removed and that's about $350 as well.
Reply:what you can do is buy CET chews(you can get from your vet) and let her chew on it(under strict supervision never leave her alone with it) this might help loosen the puppy teeth and eventually fall out on their own. Also if you plan to spay her they can do it under anesthesia. If you don't remove them they can create problems later on. They may fall out also but if she's a small breed (like Maltese, Yorkie, or Pomeranian, etc.) it most likely will not fall out. You can also look around to other vets and see how much they charge.

Reply:If the adult teeth are in as long or longer than the baby teeth then one thing you can do is pay a lot of attention to your puppy and while snuggling her, work the baby teeth back and forth with your finger, like you did your teeth with your tongue when you were losing yours. This will help loosen them and work them out.
Reply:No, buy a rope chew toy and let her have at it, the string will help loosen and remove baby teeth.
