When Do You Start Brushing your Puppy's Teeth??

I was just curious as to when you start doing this? Is 8 weeks to young, or should I not be concerned about it until later?

When Do You Start Brushing your Puppy's Teeth??
8 weeks isn't too young, although you probably don't need toothpaste just yet, you can use one of those "finger brushes" dampened with water.

The earlier you start handling your pup's mouth and teeth (and ears, paws %26amp; pads, and poking around the rest of its body, for that matter) the better! Make it like a fun routine, give him praise and the odd treat. This will make vet visits MUCH easier, as he will be comfortable with people checking him out and sticking their fingers everywhere lol. I poke at my pup every day, everywhere, gently of course. I also give little playful tugs at his tail, because eventually when he's around kids I don't want these kinds of things to freak him right out.

So, ya, brush the little guy's teeth as soon as you want!
Reply:we didnt start until after he had his adult teeth..we waited for his puppy teeth to fall out
Reply:The teeth don't need it until they are close to a year old but start now with putting your finger and a,toothbrush in their mouth so they are accustomed to it
Reply:This is a good time to get them used to the feel of it. Start by getting a flavored tooth paste designed for dogs. Have the pup lick it off your finger, so its like a treat. Then you can put some on a piece of gauze or use a soft bristle tooth brush. Most of the time they like the flavor so much that they don't pay any attention to the tooth brush.

Also now is when you want to prepare the pup for the vet.

Hold the pup against you until the pup relaxes. If the pup fights just hold gently, but firmly.

Have your vet show you how to trim the toenails and do this every week along with the teethbrushing, coat brushing, and make sure to play with his ears and rub some soft gauze/cotton in his ears.

All this will help prevent any anxiety when it comes to the vet.
Reply:Start right away. They will get used to it and put up with it when they get older. Begin by being very gentle. Don' need to brush for a long time, just do it often at first. Good Luck!
Reply:You can start getting the pup used to you having things put in his mouth. Start by rubbing their gums with your finger, get a dog toothpaste (human brands will make the sick) put a tiny dab on your finger and let them lick it off. I think many people don't brush their dog's teeth because their dogs don't like it. These steps will get your dog used to it and maybe even enjoy the attention.
