She jus started losing them this week, but she lost 4 in 2 days. Surprisingly i found them all. But i am concerned if thats too many, or if i should change her food to a soft diet or what? This is my first puppy. Shes yorkie and chiwawa. Any info you can give would be very helpful. By the way, is this process painful for her??
My puppy is losing alot of teeth at once, is that normal?
Yep that's why they call 'empuppy teeth. Very normal; those sharp little needles fall out and their adult teeth grow in, just like with human kids.
Does not appear to hurt. I used to find them all over the house when Samson (my dachshund) was teething. A piece of rawhide netted us three teeth in one day. I seemed to always find them with the vacuum as well; instead of sucking them up it would shoot them at my shins.
She may appreciate some good chew toys, nylabones, hard rubber kongs, to help work the teeth out. The new adult teeth are pushing up from underneath and should appear shortly.
DO NOT switch to moist or soft food; that's really bad for their teeth. A quality dry kibble like canidae is best for her.
Reply:Losing her teeth so quickly is normal. She is teething. Puppies lose their "baby" teeth and get adult teeth, which are bigger and not quite as sharp. You do not need to change her diet, but she may need a lot of things to chew on right now to alleviate the pain in her gums. Like human babies, puppies' gums hurt when they are teething. You can get her a puppy Kong at the pet store and fill it with soft dog food and then freeze it before giving it to her. She may also like the Chilli Bone. You wet it with water and then freeze it before giving it to her.
There are also teething toys that you can get that do not require anything special. Look in the toy aisle at the pet store or ask an associate.
Reply:she might of lost more usually dogs swallow there loose teeth my german shepherd lost around 5 in a week maybe more, but dont worry its common 4 dogs 2 loose their teeth they r losing their puppy teeth 2 grow their dog teeth
Reply:i dont think its painful, might be irritating though. as long as her gums look nice and pink and healthy i dont think its a problem.
Reply:very normal! and not painful
Reply:She's fine Mommy/Daddy, most times you won't find them as they are ate with what she chews. nothing big, every puppy goes through this.
Reply:I agree with ERINSUZY, but if you don't have a chilly bone, you can give her ice cubes, some dogs love them and it will have the same anesthetic effect, plus something to play with.
