5 mo. old puppy with extra set of teeth?!?

I have a 5 mom. old puppy who I think has an extra set of teeth. On the bottom where his fangs are there is one identical fang growing the same size, shape, everything! Is this normal?

5 mo. old puppy with extra set of teeth?!?
It's his permanent tooth. The older one should loosen up and fall out. If it doesn't, the vet can pull it. You might give him some milk bones and hard food to help loosen it.
Reply:Uh, no thats not normal!! Get him looked at by a vet, it might be painful!
Reply:OMGG!!!its just an extra set of teeth..no big deal
Reply:I'd say no. Is it interfering with him at all? I mean, can he eat without biting himself? If it isn't and it doesn't seem to hurt him, then leave it be until you see the vet the next time. Worst comes to worst: the vet will put him to sleep and pull it out.
Reply:I have a 3 year old shi tzu boy with two sets of teeth in the bottom. it is normal out vet said, its just that his puppy teeth didnt fall out and instead got pushed back by permanent teeth. you can take him to a vet if it bothers you and they will pull them out. if not, its not a big deal. i think it makes my dog look cute.
Reply:It sounds like maybe his adult teeth came in before the baby teeth could fall out. Have this checked by your vet. He/she may need to pull the baby teeth. If your puppy still needs to be neutered, you can have the teeth done at the same time as the surgery.
Reply:Sometimes their puppy teeth fall out after their adult teeth have already erupted, leading to the look of two sets of teeth. Sometimes the puppy teeth don't fall out and need to be pulled. This is routinely done at the time of spay/neuter, and is very easy to do. Don't worry about it.
Reply:yeah, it's a retained baby tooth, and it's pretty common, especially in smaller breeds. Usually it's the canines (fangs) that are retained, but i once saw a dog with almost a full set of retained puppy teeth. Usually when you have your dog spayed or neutered (about 6 months) the vet will simply remove the retained teeth. If you're not planning on having the dog altered....(please reconsider)...you'll have to arrange to have them removed.
Reply:Sometimes the baby teeth stay in when the adult teeth are growing in. If the baby tooth does not fall out or get pushed out, then the Vet will need to pull them to prevent the adult teeth from being out of alignment. Now's a good time for playing with tug toys with your pup. Not too roughly, but it might help the baby teeth to come out.
Reply:I've actually had this happen with several of my puppies. Just like with kids, the baby tooth hasn't quite fallen out yet before the adult tooth has started growing in. Seems to happen frequently with the canines ("fangs"). 5 months is the prime time for baby teeth to be coming out and adult teeth to be finishing up growing in. That's why pups this age are so destructive- they're teething! Keep an eye on it to make sure that it does go ahead and fall out (I'd give it maybe a week). A good sturdy chewy bone will sometimes do the trick... check your pet store for a nylabone in the appropriate size for your puppy. If the tooth is still hanging on, then it's time for a vet check, as the baby teeth not falling out can cause the adult teeth to come in crooked, which may cause bite and eating problems for your dog.
Reply:No, those baby teeth should fall out.. SOmetimes they don't come out on their own when the adult teeth come in, and you need to get them pulled.
Reply:lol I had this problem too! Some dogs, especially small ones, just don't lose their baby teeth over time. They would then have to have their baby teeth pulled out. I had this done to my yorkie. But, before I agreed to get her baby teeth pulled I found a vet that I fully trusted. Talk to your vet and they could tell you more about getting their teeth pulled and cost. I'm not sure how old a puppy should be when they lose their baby teeth as my little girl never lost hers. Definately talk to your vet but it is normal to have this problem :)
Reply:IT IS RETAINED DECIDUOUS TEETH(BABY TEETH) Your vet will normally extract them at the same time the dog is spayed or neutered. This is actually pretty common in smaller breeds of dogs-shouldn't just leave them in.
