Is it normal for my almost 5 month old Chihuahua/Dotson puppy to start losing teeth???

My puppy was being her usually self and playing with me and biting everything (including me) in sight!! That's when I saw blood.. So I looked and seen that it was coming from where she had a tooth and on the other side she had a tooth that is in the same spot just opposite dangling!! Is that normal?? She's my first puppy to take care of and I'm freaking out!! And.. If it is normal how do I make her feel better?? I know it kills loosing teeth!! And growing new ones.. How do I ease the pain for her?? Thanks for listening to my concerns!!!

Yes, she's just losing her milk teeth, it's normal. Her adult teeth will come in. Try a puppy Kong (it's blue and white), you can put her favorite treat (peanut butter, etc) in it and freeze it, or try a Chilly Bone (you soak it in water and freeze it) to help sooth her gums.
Reply:You need do nothing, it's a natural process all pups, like kids, go through...and you might want o look at the second breed there- there's no 'dotson breed.
Reply:whats a dotson??? dachshund you mean?? dogs are like people, they lose their baby teeth and get "big people" teeth. watch the canine teeth though. sometimes the adult teeth can come in and the baby ones wont fall out. that could require surgery
Reply:She's just losing her baby teeth, like humans do, too. There are plenty of dog teething toys for her to chew on. It'll help the new teeth break through her gums quicker. Also, make sure she's got some soft puppy food. It may be tough for her to eat dry food, so she may not eat as much if it's dry food, and she needs her nutrition! Other than that, it's completely normal, and it's just going to take time for those new teeth to grow in. Also, I think you're thinking of the Dachshund breed (pronounced Dock-sund). They're more popularly known as wiener dogs, hot dogs, etc, because they have such long bodies and such little legs! They're commonly bred with Chihuahuas, too. Good luck with your puppy! She'll be fine, just get her some teething toys, some soft food, and plenty of extra love and attention. Also... check for loose teeth or falling out teeth... don't want her to swallow any of them!!!
