When my puppy goes in the crate she bites it and gets her teeth stuck and then pulls and it hurts her!?

I just got her on christmas and she is a mixed between a wired hair terrior and a hound dog. It is a weird mix but she is a cutie, but when i try to put her to bed she cries and she bites the cage and gets her teeth stuck on the cage then pulls and i dont want her to rip her teeth out luckly i was near her when she got her teeth stuck last time but what if it happend when im not around? How can i prevent this from happening?

When my puppy goes in the crate she bites it and gets her teeth stuck and then pulls and it hurts her!?
You could buy some Bitter Apple to put on the bars so it won't taste good when she goes to bite it. Crate training is rough in the beginning, but it's worth it for you and your pet!
Reply:you could tre tapping pieces of paper around her kennel?

this came out of the top of my head so sorry
Reply:when you put her in a cage put somthing around the bars like allumin or plastic so when she bites it her teeth dont get stuck or put a dog snack or toy in it so she doesnt bite on th bars period
Reply:train pet and not put it in crate will be better.
Reply:My pup never liked a crate at night. I suggest getting a gate and putting it in a bathroom. Put some toys, food, water, and a dog bed for her. If you keep a dog in a crate when it is young they can grow to be aggressive.
Reply:Where did you get her from? I had this same problem with my pup (he's a pointer/terrier mix) and he went nuts inside the cage. I asked the vet about this, and he said not to crate him because it is stressing him out too much. My pup was also rescued from an abusive home, so he may very well associate the cage with the bad things in his previous 'home'.
Reply:Sounds like separation anxiety. She is not used to being alone yet. I used to sleep near the puppy for a while when it was in the cage to get it used to the house and its new surroundings. You can also try a blanket or stuffed toy with your scent on it or a radio. Some puppies are very smart and won't fall for it. Whatever you do, don't let the puppy get into bed with you yet, because you will create another issue. It has to learn that the crate is fun and safe to be in. Do things with her while she is in the crate with it open for a while. She will ASSOCIATE good things with it. And let her eat in it too for a while.
Reply:....if she absolutely has to be in crate at night,....

..rub some bitter tasting substance on crate...non harmful of course. Also, start her on raw carrots, full size peeled, no rawhide "toys" at all....they are very bad, dangerous for dogs, so if you have them, toss them, please. Pick up some other quality....bones...such as the natural nyla bones...they cant eat them.........leave them in crate..(have "special" toys only for crate time, such as the carrots, ...which are excellent for them too.......(i'm assuming the crate is for her getting to be housebroken and is the right size and all that.) Never put her in crate with a collar on either.

As far as biting....crate...try the rub.....and other ways to distract her. its too bad you have to leave her in crate at night.....cus i believe she has "hair" not "fur" therefore doesnt shed so she could sleep with you! =)

Shes a very high energy mix....good luck....and keep trying and good for you for being a good pet owner and keeping her in the house and safe in crate!

also, in very few cases, dogs and crates dont mix,...you may do more harm to the dog, by using crate, ..so if shes doing good on the house training and behavior, ..perhaps...lessen the crate use....or forget it altogether.
Reply:I've read all sug. and I don’t think they are what your looking for. No offence to any one. Putting something around the cage like plastic aluminum or paper just teases the dog to want to get it off, so now you have your pup with pieces of crap in her digestive system that’s not good.

I'm not sure how big she will get, but when my dog was a pup i bought her a cage that was all tuff fabric and had a netting opening with a zipper. I would then put a blanket down for her to lay on and put a toy in there for her. If you have not buy a Kong. Its the best invention ever for dogs. Peanut butter and a dog cookie is the best. When you buy one the give you tips on what to put in it. This way it keeps her busy and distracts her from getting aggravated in the cage.

Also when she cries leave her alone, she will stop crying. I would put my dog in my room at night so that seemed to help her.

Also by crating a dog does not make a dog aggressive. Dogs like being in confined places they like feeling safe. I know alot of dogs that when the owners say go in your home its there crate at the are fine.

You might want to take her to a local pet store where you can take pets in and ask them for suggestions, or go to petworld.com, they would be the best help. Plus they can see what kind and size of dog you have and the crate that you have her in might be too small or too big.

When i had my pup we only put her in her crate until she was potty trained then would let her roam around when we were gone and she was just fine.

Good luck to you and your new family member. Remember dogs are great to have but they are just like kids, so be patient and you and your pup will be happy together!
Reply:train her not to, put bones in the cage with her
Reply:I don't think this will be a popular answer, but my thought from reading that question is that you are being too worried. I seriously doubt that the puppy will break her own teeth, and even if she does... she'll have a new adult set coming in!

I say let her cry herself out. I know it's hard. If you let her out every time she acts up, she will be 10 times worse the next time.
