My puppy panjo just turned 5 weeks he is getting teeth can lap and eat solid food but still sucs from his mum?

Puppies will feed from their Moms as long as their Moms will let them. 5 weeks is still very young and I would not be disturbed until the puppy is over 8 weeks, and even then, if they can get a suck they will try. Usually by then the Moms aren't tolerating it very much and the pup then starts being weaned. You have started that process, just give it some time. Its not good for puppies to be weaned too early.

Sometimes they do until about 6 or 7 weeks. Eventually, the mom will ween the puppy. As long as he is eating solid food too he is okay.
Reply:leave him be for a few more weeks, the mom usually will let them know when enough is enough. at a young age puppies still need the nutrients from their mother. it is usual for them to be wiened @ abt. 8weeks. that is when most people let their pups go from their mothers.
Reply:If the pup is eating gruel just fine, you can start allowing the mom to spend more time away from him. He'll still need a little milk, but by 6 weeks, you should allow the mom to fully wean him.
Reply:and he will until at least 6 weeks of age. or until the mom makes him stop or you dont allow him to go with her any more. but it is best to let his mom decide when he needs to eat solid food all the time.

I have worked as a Veterinary Assistant for 3 years in the military.

good luck with the pup.
Reply:whenever my dog had puppies they stayed sucking their mom even when they started eating hard food. They usually ween off after about 7 or 8 weeks.
Reply:You need to seperate them now. Moms milk should have dried up by now and as long as you allow him to nurse then she wont dry up. Its not that he needs to nurse its that he needs to be stopped now. he doesnt know any better. It hurts the mom after they get teeth to allow them to nurse.
