My puppy's teeth are brown..?

Hi I adopted a puppy a few days ago, I know a lot about animals but have not run across this before. This particular puppy is 13 weeks old, and its teeth are a brownish color. I asked the vet and she said it could have been caused by the use of antibiotics, or from distemper? She then told me not to worry about it because the puppy's teeth will fall out soon and will be replaced with adult teeth.

I'm not concerned with my dog having brown teeth. I am concerned that the dog has a health condition. The vet is new to the practice and I'm not sure if I trust what she said.

Has anyone ever had something similar happen to their puppy and if so, what did you find out (if anything) ? Thanks!

My puppy's teeth are brown..?
tetracyclines cause discoloration of teeth in puppies. distemper can cause enamel hypoplasia, which will appear as a defect in the white enamel of the teeth. puppy teeth also discolor as the root in them dies back and decays. so trust the vet and dont worry about the puppy teeth. just watch the adult teeth when they come in.
Reply:3 of my puppy's teeth turned brownish before she lost them. you might just want to wait until they fall out to see how the adult teeth look. its going to happen soon anyways. if they are brown when they come in, the maybe find a new vet to ask.
Reply:Even a vet new to the practice still had to complete vet school...so maybe you should believe what she says! Some antibiotics can discolor teeth, and if you are still feeling uncertain about it you can have the vet run a chemistry panel and a complete blood count to be sure everything is normal. ( maybe you have a hundred dollars that you don't have anything better to do with...?) If your pup is acting normal, eating well, have normal elimination and all seems well, all probably IS well.
Reply:I would think a Vet just out of school would be up on the latest conditions and techniques plus their brains are still sharp as the pencil they took their state bar exam with.

Antibotics usually cause this... just as if they drink cows milk the teeth can have a yellowing effect.

New ones are on the way ...

Ain't puppies great

??????????
Reply:I wouldn't worry over much. The antibiotics given for kennel cough or ear infections could cause this so that doesn't necessarily indicate ongoing health problems just a baby coming from a poor situation. If you adopted him from a rescue, you could call and ask them what, if any, medications or problems they dealt with while he was there. You could call another vet and get a 2nd opinion or just wait for the adult teeth. Thank you for adopting....Good Luck!!
Reply:Too much canned food could do that too. Give her dry kibble and some hard bones to chew on. Also try brushing her teeth. If it is from antibiotics, the stains may not come out. Also you may want to get a distemper test done. But it's not likely if she is healthy otherwise.
Reply:Maybe the vet you visited may have a point as your pup's baby teeth are still falling off. Just observe as mother nature takes place. If your puppy doesn't show any serious symptoms within her/his young life, then there is another solution that'll keep your worries at bay. See, mouth infections can lead to serious problems in the gums and other parts of the body, including the heart, so it's important to give your dog's teeth and mouth special attention or seek help from a reputable vet in your area for a second diagnosis!

But anyway, I know of this that'll absolutely help cure brown stains etc. from your pup's teeth, it's called Leba. Since I brush my 1 yr old doggy's teeth regularly (with 3-way toothbrush and doggy ttothpaste), I was thinking of purchasing the Leba and apply it on her teeth for maintenance to save us a trip to the vet's and to avoid having her sedated during the dental cleaning procedure (annual). There are doggy online boutiques that sells them too. Go to GWLITTLE.COM.
