Should my puppy lose any teeth?

My puppy that is 5 mo old has lost a tooth while we were playing with a pull toy. Should she lose any teath at such a young age? It dosent seem to bother her at all. She is a miniature Doxson.

Should my puppy lose any teeth?
Yep...puppies lose their baby...er...puppy teeth just like we do.
Reply:it should be fine
Reply:Yes , that is natural. Most of the time owners don't notice the puppy losing teeth. Puppies will lose there baby teeth just like humans.
Reply:That's fine. Dogs have baby teeth just like humans and your dog is at the age when he starts losing those baby teeth
Reply:yes this is about the time they will be losing them

most of the time you wont even know because they swallow them

around 5 to 8 months

B.
Reply:It is okay when my dog was a puppy it lost some of its teeth
Reply:4-6 months is the age that puppies start to loose their puppy teeth. They will be replaced with larger, duller adult teeth. It is perfectly normal. You may want to get a towel wet and freeze it and let her chew on it, as it soothes the pain of teething.
Reply:It's completely natural. Like humans, dogs have to loose their baby teeth. Most of these teeth are never seen because the dog swallows them. However, if these are adult teeth she's losing, you might want to consider asking your vet, or playing a little softer with her.

Doxson is spelled "Dachshund."
Reply:Yes, all puppies loose their teeth like us humans. I am sure you have felt his razor sharp teeth when he is chewing on you. This will soon change and all his teeth will be softer and pearly white and he will keep those for the rest of his life. So no need to be worried or alarmed, it is toally natural for them to loose their teeth. He is all healthy and happy and I am sure he had a good time playing with you.
Reply:Yes, she is losing her puppy teeth. Most of the time you never get to see the teeth. They tend to ingest them. Just be happy you got to see it.

Pull toys, chew toys and similar things are great for teething puppies. Also, ice is good to relive some of the pain. You can take an old towel and soak it in water and freeze it for her to chew on. That will provide the numbing of the ice, but she can still chew as much as she needs to.
Reply:they loose their puppy teeth at about 4-7 months. by 7-8 months they should have alltheir adult teeth

If you aren't going to breed her this is a good time to get her spayed before she even starts her heat.
Reply:Yes, it is pretty posible. You know how some kids loose their teeth at a younger age than others? It's the same with dogs, some will loose their "baby" teeth sooner than others.

Even though most dogs start loosing their teeth at 6 months, I've seen some that began teething at 4 months and a half.

Since her gums may start aching I would recommend you to buy her some chew toys. They should be of rubber, so that she can bite safely into them.

I recommend you to buy her 1 as soon as you can, because some dogs, not having chew toys will start chewing into almost anything they can find during teething. Afterwards, their owners had a lot of trouble to take them off this habit.

Don't worry, just make sure that she bites into her toys and not into anything you don't want her to.
Reply:Yes, it's natural for puppies to lose their teeth. You own a mini Dachshund.....not Doxson.
Reply:This is perfectly normal just make sure to check for any inflamation in the mouth
Reply:OK. First of all, it's DACHSHUND. What the heck is a doxson anyway? Come from the same place as a rockwiler?

All young animals lose their deciduous (baby) teeth, and at 5 months, your puppy should have lost several of her baby teeth as the permanent ones come in. You may or may not see the teeth as they come out, sometimes they swallow them, which is no problem, or they may lose them outside. If, by the time you get the puppy spayed (which I HOPE you'll do before her 1st heat at 6-8 months), have the vet check for any retained baby teeth, mainly Canines ( the 4 big incisors on front) - if they are still present and the permanent ones are in, then you'll want to get them extracted at the same time, this will stop any mal-occlusion and unnecessary wear and crowding of the other teeth.
Reply:Yeah its normal, they are teething.
Reply:they are called milk teeth (or in people baby teeth) they should all fall out this is fine and why puppy will be wanting to bite alot around this time

get a raw hide and start teaching good things to chew and bad things to chew
Reply:thats normal she will lose all her baby teeth and get adult teeth
Reply:Your dog will be fine. It is normal for a dog to lose teeth at 5 months old. my puppy who is 8 months now started to lose his teeth between 4 and 5 months of age.
Reply:Yes they are like humans they loose the puppy teeth and adult teeth grow back.

My puppy's teeth?

I have a ten week old Labrador Retriever dog and wanted to know what age they lose their teeth to be replaced by their adult teeth? Answers greatly appreciated.

My puppy's teeth?
The exact schedule does vary from breed to breed. If you're lucky, you might even find a couple. Usually the pup swallows them with no harm done.

Dogs have 28 deciduous (temporary) teeth and 42 permanent teeth.

Puppies have no teeth at birth, and grow deciduous teeth beginning their second week of life. At three months of age, the deciduous teeth begin to be replaced by the permanent teeth.

The replacement process begins with the incisors, and moves backwards through the canines, premolars and finally the molars.

The turnover process is usually complete by the time the dog is eight months old, with none of the original 28 deciduous teeth remaining. Most deciduous teeth are swallowed with food and never seen by the pet owner. Occasionally a deciduous tooth is merely pushed to the side and retained next to the permanent tooth. Retained deciduous teeth can be removed by a veterinarian.

The incisors turn over from deciduous to permanent from two to four months of age. The canines usually convert around six months of age. The premolars and molars follow in that order, with the last permanent molar erupting around eight months of age.

Hope this helps :-)
Reply:Should start around 4 months. Make sure you have LOTS of chew toys for him as it is very painful and frustrating for them. They'll probably start to nibble a little bit more on you as well around that age because of the teething.

*Some of these posters have dogs losing teeth at ONE YEAR old! That NEVER happens. All puppies lose their baby teeth and have their full adult teeth by 6/7 months at the very latest. Anyone who says they'll lose them at a year, is very mistaken.
Reply:my puppy lost his baby teeth around Christmas time which would have put him at about 5 months..and the vet told me once those came out i could get him neutered, not sure why but thats what she said..they will start getting loose like human teeth do and they'll just fall out on their own..encourage him to chew on hard things, that should help as well
Reply:it is usually around 1 year old and they cheww EVERYTHING so watch out!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Between 4-7 months.
Reply:Our puppies lost their teeth at around 4 months. Do get lots of teething toys for your dog as they will want to chew.
Reply:It is usually around 4 to 6 months ...you will know because you may find little doggy teeth on your floor or your dog may paw at there mouth if they have a loose tooth. There are loads of puppy chews out there now just for teething pups which really help..keep them occupied and they will leave your table legs alone!!

Do puppy's loose teeth?

My puppy was playing wiht a toy and his tooth came out. He's 5 months. I can't get ahold of the vet...normal or emergency vet trip?? And please, no one make fun of me, I seriously don't know!

Do puppy's loose teeth?
Oh, don't worry so much, silly! I'm not making fun of you, hon! It's completely fine; you truly may not have known if that was supposed to happen, right? Lol, it's perfectly normal. Puppies lose their baby teeth just like human children do, and as they mature into adulthood, new permanent teeth grow in. The funny thing is, this may not be the first tooth your baby has lost; most puppies swallow their loose teeth! Nothing to worry about, that is, unless they all start coming out at once! Can't have him toothless!
Reply:Yes. Just like babies. Around 4-6 months.
Reply:yes they do.. but you never know when because the swallow them..
Reply:Yes
Reply:He's at the right age that his baby teeth will fall out...Please don't worry...He's just fine.. :-)
Reply:Yes, puppies loose teeth like people do. My puppy lost her tooth chewing on a bone when she was 5 months old.
Reply:Yea, to not make this complacted, if they fall out they are fine dont worry.
Reply:Yes, puppies like babies loose their teeth and are replaced with adult teeth.
Reply:I think everyone agrees with the answer YES. Puppies do lose their puppy teeth and get adult teeth - just like people.
Reply:This is normal. Puppies do lose teeth!
Reply:Our guy is 6 mos. old and he just finished losing his teeth. I got 6 of them and saved them. He has all his big boy teeth now. Easier on the hands when he starts mouthing...lol
Reply:yes
Reply:Ahh, don't panic, its completely normal and nothing at all to worry about, you don't even need to take him to the vet! He's going to lose ALL of his baby teeth over the coming months, you'll be finding them on the floor, in his bed, on your bed, in fact you'll find them anywhere he sits, sleeps or lays! Please don't worry yourself over it, he's not in any pain, just a little bit of a sore gum but that heals in hours, honestly, he'll be fine! Best of luck to you, your question was sooo sweet.
Reply:yess they do. lose there teeth

between the ages 5-7 months.

you dont need a vet...

im glab u askedd this question.

:)

hope this helps
Reply:yulp they do just like we do =] but watch where you step b.c those things hurt : ]
Reply:yes they usually start at 4 months and finish about 6-7 months. Tehy often swallow their teeth so often you don't even know except when they play nip you will notice that the teeth aren't as sharp.
Reply:Take it easy, it is quite normal for dogs to lose their baby teeth at about this age.

His new permanent teeth should come in soon.

Sometimes the adult teeth come in and the puppy teeth are still there, so the puppy teeth have to be pulled - most vets check and do this when the dog is neutered.

Your dog should be fine - just check his mouth to make sure there is no bleeding or any broken teeth, but puppy teeth do fall out.
Reply:yes
Reply:yes, they do. Infact, puppys love to chew because there growing those new teeth. They start to come out at about 4 months, although sometimes later, and they just gradually fall out from there. My corgi puppy lost her 6th tooth yesterday! Thankfully adult doggy teeth are less sharp than baby teeth, so my couch will no longer suffer... lol.

If a Maltese puppy has an underbite, will her teeth stick out of her mouth when she's full grown?

I know that when flat faced puppies like Boxers, Shih-tzus and Lhasa-apsos have under bites, the teeth stick out of their mouth when the dog becomes full grown. I also know that when puppies with short, but not flat muzzles like Chihuahuas have under bites, when the dog becomes full grown you can only see the under bite when you open their mouth and inspect their teeth. My Maltese puppy looks like a normal Maltese, but when you closely inspect her teeth inside her mouth, you can see they aren't aligned perfectly. I know Malteses have muzzles about the same size as Chihuahuas, so if her teeth don't correct themselves and my puppy becomes full grown, will the under bite show outside her mouth, or will it be hidden and only show when you open her mouth and check the alignment of her teeth like the Chihuahua?

If a Maltese puppy has an underbite, will her teeth stick out of her mouth when she's full grown?
I have a Westie Poodle mix who had a slight underbite when she was a puppy. As a puppy you could not see her teeth, but as she got older the teeth did begin to show. At first I was a bit disappointed, however, now I wouldn't have her any other way. She's absolutely adorable and her little underbite gives her character and she always looks like she's smiling. I have learned to embrace the underbite.

You can see a pic of her here:

Reply:your puppies bite will not change over time. what you see is what you get
Reply:If it has an underbite chances are it will be more pronounced as it gets bigger. I know it did with any dogs I have had anyway.

Chihuahua's if well bred should not have an underbite. I have 4 and all have perfect bite paterns.

Is it normal for a 12-week-old puppy's front teeth to still not be fully grown?

My puppy's other baby teeth seem to be fully grown but some of her front teeth are still not all the way out of her gums. Will they keep her permanent teeth from growing in right?

Is it normal for a 12-week-old puppy's front teeth to still not be fully grown?
Most dogs start losing their puppy teeth at 16 weeks old, although that varies widely from breed to breed and each animal has its own internal clock. If the puppy's parent have normal teeth, then you shouldn't start worrying until the dog is about 6 months old.
Reply:Yep :)
Reply:Yeah its totally normal even if they don't grow out in the next year its still is
Reply:I think so. It took my babies awhile to get all theirs in. I wouldn't be too terribly concerned. Just keep an eye on it for a couple more months.
Reply:Yeah. They are getting ready to lose their baby teeth and get their adult teeth.
Reply:my 4 mth old poochi still has all his baby teeth,it can take a while to get the new ones. i have had other pups whose baby teeth were still in when the new fangs pushed through. i wouldn.t worry about it until he is a yr old or so.

Is it okay for a puppy to lose teeth?

my puppy lost one of his teeth...hes lik 4 months is this normal r they supposed to lose their teeth?

Is it okay for a puppy to lose teeth?
It's normal for a pup to lose their baby teeth just like you did. Try to keep him well supplied with chew toy's. Chew toy's feel good to the dog's mouth and it will help to keep him from chewing on thing's you don't want him to, like your shoes, the furniture, your clothing, etc. Good luck.
Reply:no

see a vet
Reply:Yes, this is normal. Like humans, they have baby teeth and adult teeth. Your puppy is fine, an adult tooth will grow in in its place.
Reply:not normal but probably OK
Reply:i think i mean humans loose'm why shoundnt dogs
Reply:It's OK with me.
Reply:As stated previously, puppies do lose teeth and then get adult teeth. It's normal, you just don't think about it because your dog doesn't pick the tooth up and put it under his pillow for the tooth fairy.
Reply:yes.....puppies need to loose their teeth to make room for their permanent teeth
Reply:yes they are just like human children whom lose there teeth! Maybe the puppy tooth fairy w/bring him or her a treat
Reply:yes...it happens 2 all dogs
Reply:Yes
Reply:Totally normal!! :) Just like humans loose their teeth, puppies do too. It is somewhat rare that you would notice, the puppy usually swallows the tooth subconsciously. But now that you have noticed, keep watch and I'm sure you'll notice a few more missing in the next month or so. Don't worry at all, you may even notice the tooth turn darker than another right before it falls out, this is also normal, do not worry about it. Your little puppy is growing up :) How Cute :) Good Luck
Reply:baby teeth fall out, adult teeth grow in............normal
Reply:yes it's normal, just like with kids, they're making room for adult teeth, nothing to worry about.
Reply:yes its normal they loose there teeth just like we do but they shouldnt lose there canines (vampire teeth) your pup might even bleed a little if he does give him a little milk it should stop it
Reply:Perfectly normal - puppies shed those sharp little needles for something more useful!

And don't panic when you play with him, and a tooth comes out in a tugatoy - it happens. Sometimes they get swallowed - don't worry about it.

I also recommend wearing shoes until he's finished - those puppy canines are *sharp*, and stepping on one is just not fun!
Reply:yes they loose baby teeth and get grown up ones just like we do. he should have most of his adult teeth by 7 months. in the mean time provide him with lots of things to chew on because that's all hes going to want to do. get a book at any local pet shop about raising and training puppies to give you some guidelines as what to expect and tips to train your puppy into a well behaved dog. good luck and have fun!
Reply:Yes this normal for puppies same as children
Reply:NOOOO take him to the denist right away!!!!!
Reply:yes it is ok for the teeth to come out because they are hes baby teeth he will get his real teeth after that!!!
Reply:Yes, dear...not to worry. It's perfectly normal. In that respect (and many others) they're just like infants. Their baby teeth drop out to make room for their permanent teeth. (^@^)
Reply:yup yup
Reply:if they are his baby teeth, they are small and pointy sometimes sharp. but just like people they get permenant teeth
Reply:yes this is normal,..according to my pup's vet,..like humans, pups lose their baby teeth too!...

Cost of extracting puppy's impacted teeth?

My poor little puppy's canines (all 4 of them) are impacted --2 canines in each spot that should only have 1. The vet at Banfield told me it would cost 400 dollars to extract them, etc. Should I shop around and try to get the best price or should I just go back to Banfield? **I will definitely get his teeth fixed ASAP. Do vet prices vary?

Cost of extracting puppy's impacted teeth?
I think I would get one other opinion from another vet's office. I've had pups for over 40 years and never have I seen or heard of this in a l0 month old puppy. One of your answers on here suggest that it be treated with "antiobiotics." I agree with her. I think that would be the best. At the very least, please ask the vet if these are her "puppy teeth" or adult teeth.

Hope all goes well and she is feeling great soon.

Blessings, Patti
Reply:call your local humane society about pet vouchers for vet services. my local humane society has low cost vouchers it sells to people for vet services so they can get the medical care they need at a more affordable rate.

I would take it to another vet. Banfield is a chain vet operation and they are out to make a profit. See if you can find a local vet, ask the humane society for a list of affordable vets they would recommend.
Reply:HOW old of a PUPPY is this? The teeth will naturally fall out on their own and be replaced with adult teeth. Can you possibly treat the infection with antibiotics and wait for the teeth to fall out naturally?
Reply:I had a girl once that had this with one canine tooth. The vets told me to wait until she was 6 months old. If the baby tooth had not fallen out by then, it would have to be taken care of. Fortunately it fell out on it's own. Vets also said that they check for this when they do a spay/neuter. That's the best time. It doesn't cost much at all because they already have the dog asleep. I've also been told that Banfield is very expensive.

Check with other vets.

Do puppy's teeth grow in and then fall out then the permanent grow in like a child?

i have a puppy who is 9 weeks old and his teeth are still growing .he likes to pull or bite on anything he can and we where not sure if his teeth would get pullin out

Do puppy's teeth grow in and then fall out then the permanent grow in like a child?
Yes, puppies have 28 deciduous (temporary) teeth and 42 permanent teeth. Puppies have no teeth at birth, and grow deciduous teeth beginning their second week of life. At three months of age, the deciduous teeth begin to be replaced by the permanent teeth.

Please don't try pulling any out by yourself. They will fall out naturally, and if you're lucky, you might even find one or two to keep in your puppy's scrapbook :-)

You can give your dog ice cubes to chew on to help with the discomfort, or you can freeze an old wash cloth, but make your watch your pup carefully when he's chewing on the wash cloth.

Occasionally, a deciduous tooth is merely pushed to the side and retained next to the permanent tooth. Reply:yes they do lose teeth like us so dont worry
Reply:The loose their teeth just like a child. Just be careful in play. It will be a few months from now before the adult teeth start to erupt. So in the mean time, if you're concerned you'll break the teeth he has and uses now, just kinda keep an eye on the play.
Reply:He'll start to teeth approx 14-16 weeks of age. At that time he'll lose his current teeth and gain his adult teeth. They aren't as sharp, and are much nicer !

Don't be pullin out teeth.
Reply:yes,

of course.
Reply:Yes. Puppies lose their baby teeth just like children. Of course dogs grow faster than people and so do their teeth. When your puppy starts chewing on everything that means that they're teething. But they are not like babies. They're not going to cry. And unless you look in their mouths everyday you probably won't notice.
Reply:yes they do.
Reply:Like humans, dogs have two sets of teeth in their lives. The 28 baby teeth erupt through the gums between the third and sixth weeks of age. Puppies do not have to grind much food, so they do not have molars. Puppy teeth begin to shed and be replaced by permanent adult teeth at about four months of age. Although there is some variation in breeds, most adult dogs have 42 teeth, with the molars coming last, at about six or seven months.

My puppy's teeth are brown..?

Hi I adopted a puppy a few days ago, I know a lot about animals but have not run across this before. This particular puppy is 13 weeks old, and its teeth are a brownish color. I asked the vet and she said it could have been caused by the use of antibiotics, or from distemper? She then told me not to worry about it because the puppy's teeth will fall out soon and will be replaced with adult teeth.

I'm not concerned with my dog having brown teeth. I am concerned that the dog has a health condition. The vet is new to the practice and I'm not sure if I trust what she said.

Has anyone ever had something similar happen to their puppy and if so, what did you find out (if anything) ? Thanks!

My puppy's teeth are brown..?
tetracyclines cause discoloration of teeth in puppies. distemper can cause enamel hypoplasia, which will appear as a defect in the white enamel of the teeth. puppy teeth also discolor as the root in them dies back and decays. so trust the vet and dont worry about the puppy teeth. just watch the adult teeth when they come in.
Reply:3 of my puppy's teeth turned brownish before she lost them. you might just want to wait until they fall out to see how the adult teeth look. its going to happen soon anyways. if they are brown when they come in, the maybe find a new vet to ask.
Reply:Even a vet new to the practice still had to complete vet school...so maybe you should believe what she says! Some antibiotics can discolor teeth, and if you are still feeling uncertain about it you can have the vet run a chemistry panel and a complete blood count to be sure everything is normal. ( maybe you have a hundred dollars that you don't have anything better to do with...?) If your pup is acting normal, eating well, have normal elimination and all seems well, all probably IS well.
Reply:I would think a Vet just out of school would be up on the latest conditions and techniques plus their brains are still sharp as the pencil they took their state bar exam with.

Antibotics usually cause this... just as if they drink cows milk the teeth can have a yellowing effect.

New ones are on the way ...

Ain't puppies great

??????????
Reply:I wouldn't worry over much. The antibiotics given for kennel cough or ear infections could cause this so that doesn't necessarily indicate ongoing health problems just a baby coming from a poor situation. If you adopted him from a rescue, you could call and ask them what, if any, medications or problems they dealt with while he was there. You could call another vet and get a 2nd opinion or just wait for the adult teeth. Thank you for adopting....Good Luck!!
Reply:Too much canned food could do that too. Give her dry kibble and some hard bones to chew on. Also try brushing her teeth. If it is from antibiotics, the stains may not come out. Also you may want to get a distemper test done. But it's not likely if she is healthy otherwise.
Reply:Maybe the vet you visited may have a point as your pup's baby teeth are still falling off. Just observe as mother nature takes place. If your puppy doesn't show any serious symptoms within her/his young life, then there is another solution that'll keep your worries at bay. See, mouth infections can lead to serious problems in the gums and other parts of the body, including the heart, so it's important to give your dog's teeth and mouth special attention or seek help from a reputable vet in your area for a second diagnosis!

But anyway, I know of this that'll absolutely help cure brown stains etc. from your pup's teeth, it's called Leba. Since I brush my 1 yr old doggy's teeth regularly (with 3-way toothbrush and doggy ttothpaste), I was thinking of purchasing the Leba and apply it on her teeth for maintenance to save us a trip to the vet's and to avoid having her sedated during the dental cleaning procedure (annual). There are doggy online boutiques that sells them too. Go to GWLITTLE.COM.

Cost to have puppy teeth extracted?

Any idea how much it might run to have a puppies first teeth extracted. She has one that might be growing down into the overbite into her gum and the vet wants to watch to make sure it doesn't for about 2 weeks. Any idea on cost to have the little tooth pulled and anest? on a 11 week old shih tzu?

On a kid it would be about $50-100, but you don't have to put a kid to sleep to do it...

When does a puppy start losing puppy teeth?

My lab puppy is 4 months old and he lost a tooth in the front. It looks fine, I'm just wondering if this is about the right age for it to happen. Also, how fast will the new tooth come in, and how will it be different from the puppy tooth?

When does a puppy start losing puppy teeth?
Around 4 to 5 months of age, puppies will start to get their permanent teeth. He is going to need to chew a lot right now. His gums will be irritating him because he is cutting his adult teeth. Something that I find eases their discomfort and guides their chewing to allowed items is to buy one of the rope toys with the knots in each end. Be sure to get a larger one for your Lab. Soak the rope in chicken broth (you can buy it by the can or carton at the grocery store) until it has absorbed lots of the broth, then freeze it. Give it to your pup and the fact that it is frozen will ease the pain in his gums and the chicken broth will encourage him to chew it. Works great!

Puppies lose their teeth in a distinct pattern: first the small front teeth come out. Then the premolars just behind the canines. Then the molars in the back come out (and you'll see adult molars behind those erupting as well). Finally the canine teeth come out. Sometimes the adult canines erupt before the baby canines have come all the way out
Reply:Dogs lose puppy teeth the same way you lost baby teeth. It happens at 3-6 mos, and the new ones will come in pretty quickly. The only difference is they are bigger and stronger.
Reply:4-6 months is when they get their adult teeth. he's fine
Reply:Four to five months is the average time. So, your pup is right on time.
Reply:They start losing their teeth around 4 months of age. Chances are you'll never find a tooth, they tend to swallow them. Give her lots of things to chew on. Frozen kongs, ice cubes, those rope toys can be dipped in water and frozen will help take the pain away. You'll probably notice blood on things, don't worry it's natural.

If you don't give her something to chew on, she'll almost definitely chew on something you don't want her too. Teething usually lasts until about a year when their jaws mature and their teeth are set.

Reply:ok i have a lab 2 and he just turned a year old not to long ago, but he started losing his teeth around 4 months! and they grew back pretty quick! and the way they are different is the adult tooth is a lot bigger and its not needle sharp like the puppy tooth!!!
Reply:Your pup sounds fine- they can loose their teeth from 306 mths. Ensure he has plenty of hard objects to chew and as mentioned by another user- a frozen rope toy(even just soaked in water) helped to cool his gums.

You can tell the difference becoz the adult teeth will be larger- check to see that there is no retained teeth as they need to be taken out.

I'm not the best person to ask as to how you tell if a pup has retained teeth- so if ur concerned- maybe ask another question.
Reply:Puppies start teething at around 3.5 months and will lose the first tooth at 4 months. This will carry on for another 2 to 3 months. The new teeth are not as sharp as the baby teeth, are very white and much bigger. New teeth will come in shortly after the baby teeth as the adult teeth push the baby teeth out. The new teeth come in once a baby tooth has fallen out. This is an ongoing process and the teeth do not come all at once. Don't forget, they also will lose the canines (fangs)and molars.

In my experience most dogs will finish teething at 7 months. This means the whole process will be completed, from the loosening, falling out and growth of adult teeth. Once the adult teeth are in, thats it, no more teething or new teeth. If your dog loses an adult tooth it will not grow back.

Give him things to chew. Ice works well, they love it and you can flavour it with beef or chicken broth.
Reply:it's the time, wait till you see new little cute teeth growing, then you should really hide your shoes;-)

And I mean X LARGE breeds, I'm a veritable expert on labs and goldens. I know it is also an individual thing but I'm trying to figure out about what age do xlarge breed puppies lose their teeth. Are they faster, slower, or the same? Do they lose teeth at about 4-6 months?

I know all of my puppies have lost their teeth in "order" (front incisors, canines, and then molars). This is my first xlarge breed pup and she's lost them out of order. Is this typical?

Is it ok for my 6 mnth pom to be getting is adult teeth with his puppy teeth still in?

He is 6 months old and hasnt lost his baby teeth and his adult k-9s are coming in you can see they have pushed his puppy teeth out wards and you can see the other teeth really well. What should i do?

Is it ok for my 6 mnth pom to be getting is adult teeth with his puppy teeth still in?
my yorkie had the same problem.. she looked like a little shark. we bought alot of rope toys to play tug with and most fell out over a span of a month... however she does have only two that need to be pulled. the vet said its normal in all little dogs.. try whatever you can besides pulling them yourself to get them out... its better for the dog if they come out on their own rather then having to be put to sleep to take them out!
Reply:If the puppy teeth don't come out by the time the adult teeth are nearly grown, a vet will need to remove them..

It is common among Pomeranians.
Reply:You're very attentive to have noticed that; you seem like a good owner.

And, no; it isn't 'ok'. It will probably need to be removed lest there will be crowding - which leads to greater chances of tooth damage and decay.

I have a... humm... 9 month? Pom with the same problem. Need ta get to the vet soon.
Reply:its happens to kids it can happen to animals as well, give him something hard to eat, or take him to the vet to get the baby teeth pulled. it can irritate him.
Reply:It is common in Toy breeds like Poms. I often told my clients to have the teeth pulled when the pup was being spayed/neutered at 6mo.

Sometimes the teeth will fall out, but if they don't the adult teeth could end up out of place.

The vet can check and see if there is any wiggle in the puppy teeth.
Reply:wiggle the baby teeth to help them fall out... this is common in small dogs.
Reply:You really should see your vet and get this all sorted out. Unfortunately this is really common for most toy breeds.
Reply:Retained Deciduous (baby teeth) is common in several of the smaller breeds,, although not a major problem..they do need to be removed ASAP because they can cause problems as the adult teeth come into wear,, the adult teeth may not come in properly, or can push the other teeth out of alignment, and be a source of trapped food, and future dental decay..

Generally removal at the time of spay/neuter surgery is recommended, that way the dog only receives only one anesthetic.. if you do not plan on having your dog altered,, you still need to plan on having the baby teeth removed soon,, ideally in the next few months,, regardless,,having retained teeth or adult teeth ruined because the baby teeth did not fall out at the proper time,, makes the dog not show quality,, or show able,, but it is OK to have the BABY teeth removed to prevent this problem.

Normally all the baby teeth should be gone at 6 months..

so it does need to be addressed sometime,, it is not actually normal,, (but is common issue in small breeds) and should be corrected for your dogs future dental health.. Good luck

Call your vet. It doesn't cost anything to talk on the phone, and he/she will let you know if it's something serious.
Reply:That is a tendancy Chihuahau's have, is teeth loss.

I have a 1/2 Chi, 1/2 Terrier, a spoiled rotten brat,.. she started losing her teeth around 5-6 yrs. old.

She's now 13 yrs. old and has 1 crooked bottom fang sticking out and some back teeth.

BUT that IS a rather earlier age for teeth loss. It has to do with the breed and genetics.

But take to vet still, just in case there's gum disease involved.
Reply:You should talk to your vet or if you bought from a breeder ask if the mommy or daddy had the same problem, it might be genetics or it might be a bone and gum disease.
Reply:The vet is the best some chis are prone to loose teeth early and some is do to feeding can or soft foods..

I have found even when you give dog biscuts give the LARGE like for the shpherd so they can really knaw on it.

Good Luck
Reply:It's probably gum disease. Sometimes little dogs can actually pull out their own teeth when they pull and play too rough.

He should see a vet for dental care. If they get really bad, I personally would just have them pulled if he were my dog. Gum disease causes heart disease, so it just isn't worth the risk.
Reply:Some small dogs have premature tooth loss.

Small dog owners really have to take care of the teeth and keep them clean. If not they will lose them prematurely.

I take mine in for a cleaning whenever they start getting calculus buildup on their teeth.

Also rinses and tooth brushing helps. But these things have to be done almost everyday.

Take your dog into the vet and talk to the vet about his teeth.

My puppy is 8 mos. old and still has her upper k9 puppy teeth next to her adult ones.?

shouldn't she have already lost her puppy teeth, ALL of them by now?

My puppy is 8 mos. old and still has her upper k9 puppy teeth next to her adult ones.?
These are called deciduous teeth and they will need to be removed by your vet if they don't fall out soon on their own.

They can cause problems if not removed.

This is not a complicated procedure. Just call your vet and tell them the situation and they can set you up an appointment.

Reply:Yes, dogs have all of their adult teeth by 6 months. What you are seeing are retained puppy teeth and they should be removed by a vet.
Reply:yes, it sounds like she retained her puppy teeth. she will need to get them pulled by the vet. she will need to be under anistisia for the procedure. just give your vet a call and let them know what;s happening
Reply:Dogs do not have all their adult teeth by the time they are 6 mos of age. Depending on the breed, they can still be losing and gaining teeth til they are 8 or 9 mos of age. As long as the teeth aren't blocking or stopping adult teeth from coming in. And as long as they aren't red and inflamed or infected looking, she'll be fine. If it looks like they are in the way and stopping the adult teeth from coming in, you'll want the vet to take a look, he might have to pull the baby teeth so the adult teeth can come in properly.

I have a 6 mos + puppy, who lost a pre molar the other day. She still has several puppy teeth to go.
Reply:If she has her puppy teeth AND her adult ones as well you need to take her to the vet and have the puppy teeth surgically removed.

Anything to soothe a puppy while losing teeth?

Our 6 1/2 month old Chihuahua is losing his baby teeth right and left. Never have I heard of anyone actually finding puppy teeth, but so far we have found all 4 that he has lost within the last week or so.

Is there anything we can do (aside from softening his food) to help soothe him? He's such a little spoiled baby and he seems to be upset about all of this! Thanks in advance!

Anything to soothe a puppy while losing teeth?
When my puppies are teething I like to stick whole carrots (since your puppy is a small breed I would use whole baby carrots) in the freezer and after they have become frozen give them to the puppy to chew on. Puppies LOVE carrots since a dog does have a sweet tooth! My dogs love carrots more than dog treats!
Reply:Aw. Some pups have it harder than others.

Try running a little rubber chew toy under water and then freezing it for him. The cold will soothe his sore mouth.
Reply:something cold to chew.

I found 2 but that's not many.

Softening his food doesn't help. The teething baby and/or puppy feels better to have something firm to chew on when teething, and often something cold to chew on helps.
Reply:Lots of stuff to chew.. And frozen green beans, and raw baby carrots!
Reply:Thats weird my chihuahua hasn't lost his teeth and his 1 year and 4 months... so i'm not really sure, but it did happen i would just praise him as much as i can, just spoile him more...make him think he's the king.
Reply:I have a 6 month old puppy and he is losing his teeth too.. we found 6 of them! We gave him ice cubes to chew on and sticks he seems to really like those and the string with knots on the end u get from the pet store are good too cause he can naw on it... it actually doesn't hurt them when there teeth fall out, it's just more annoying to them, the part that hurts them is when the teeth are growing back in.
Reply:You can get a "chilly bone" at any major pet store.

You wet it and put it in the freezer, then once it's frozen you let your dog chew and lick it. It soothes their teeth and gums.

My papillon loved his chilly bone.
Reply:Hi! i have a 7month pup who already went thru the stressful teething stage. I have also been able to collect his teeth too.lol. But what we did was buy a medium size raw hide that will help them loosen up more their teeth. I always knew when my pup will loose a tooth, only because i was able to see the spots of blood on the rawhide. Once i saw that i will go straight to the freezer and give my pup ice cubes to help stop the bleeding n soothe his teeth. It works trust me. i have also tried the chilly bone that you put in the freezer but it doesnt last long like ice cubes do.

But make sure you keep watching your dog when his chewing wt toys.Good luck! Also don't be surprise if they're cranky!lol.
Reply:Ice cubes to play with in the water bowl.....they also make Chilly Bones-freezable chewy toys for teething pups.

Do schnauzers loose their puppy teeth and get an adult set?

My four month old dog is missing her two front teeth. Is this normal? Is she just losing her puppy teeth?

Do schnauzers loose their puppy teeth and get an adult set?
lol. don't worry it's normal. in fact she may lose some without you even noticing because sometimes when they play they lose their teeth and the swallow them accidentally. But yes it's normal, just because schnauzers are small breeds does not mean they don't follow the same maturing patterns that other dogs do.

best of luck, enjoy your new sweetie!!!
Reply:all dogs loose their baby teeth and grow an adult set of teeth
Reply:This sounds normal. They'll have their adult set that should come out soon. Best of luck to you.
Reply:Yes.She is probably just losing her baby teeth it is nothing to be worried about
Reply:The proper name for baby teeth is deciduous teeth. I'm not sure about adult teeth, but I would imagine....adult teeth? Yes it is true they will lose their deciduous teeth...they just fall out. Sometimes they don't and you have to have them pulled. Good luck to you!
Reply:yes this is normal in all pups and they are puppy teeth and adult teeth
